Sir Alex Ferguson Library Unveiling: A Story in Objects

Glasgow Caledonian University was a flurry of activity on the 30th of October as we awaited a very special guest.

British footballing legend and honorary graduate of GCU, Sir Alex Ferguson, was at the university to unveil the newly named library in his honour.

The ‘Sir Alex Ferguson’ Library was named after Sir Alex to commemorate his role as Founding Donor of the GCU Foundation, where he donated an amazing £700k to the cause.

The former Manchester United and Aberdeen manager also became the name of a travel bursary that the university offers to students looking to experience opportunities overseas.

Alongside the renaming of the library, Sir Alex also donated a collection of football memorabilia to dictate a storyboard of his footballing life, called ‘My Story in Objects’.

The objects include his diary he kept from the year he won his first Premier League title with Manchester United in 1993. It also includes various certificates he was awarded and a coveted League Manager’s Association manager of the year trophy.

You can visit the display on the ground floor of the library, which is directly accessible through the Saltire Centre.
