Air Space: Jump Your Way to Fitness

Leading a student lifestyle often means that there isn’t a lot of time leftover to keep up a fitness regime. However, when you combine exercising with fun, it’s a whole different ball game.

Last month, The Edit were lucky enough to be offered the chance to try out the new Air Space, Scotland’s first indoor trampoline park. Safe to say we jumped at the chance (pardon the pun)!

The 2 million leisure destination opened at Playsport in East Kilbride and is Europe’s largest indoor freestyle jumping area. It features 100 interconnected, wall to wall trampolines in an area over 35,000 square feet.

If that’s not enough for you, Air Space has something to offer for everyone, no matter what age or fitness level. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here! Any trampolining newbies (ahem, such as myself), were advised by the very informative safety demonstration to begin at the freestyle jumping trampolines, so that’s exactly what we did.

Pretending I know what I’m doing.

After mastering this, we moved straight onto power jumping, these super springy trampolines allow maximum height for twists and turns – just like the pros! Here Kirsty showed off the trampolining skills she learned as a child, and put everyone else to shame.

We definitely chickened out of the dodgeball, my hand-eye coordination skills are next to none, but the spring loaded version of the game definitely looked like a load of fun for those that were playing it!

Instead we opted to spend some time at the slam dunk area, perfecting our skills to rival those of an MBA All Star. The run way provides optimum height to shoot hoops just like Michael Jordan would!

The air bag allows room for outlandish tricks with the knowledge that there is a soft air bag to cushion your landing, no matter how you should fall on it. The Wall ramp is also there to experience the zero-gravity feeling, if you have the guts! If you are brave enough to literally walk the walls and land on your back, the option is there.

By the time our one hour session was over, we were completely knackered. Hats off to the Air Space pros who do it on a daily basis, and we can see why. Who knew a room full of trampolines could be so much fun?

We were also informed that bouncing on a trampoline burns the same amount of calories as running does. Now I don’t know about you, but that’s definitely up my street.

£12 gets you an all access pass to the park where you can use all the facilities ‘till your hearts content. Upon arrival you are asked to purchase the Air Space socks at £1.50 a pair which can be used each time you visit.

Air Space is also an ideal day out for families or birthday parties as children as young as 10 can gain admission.
