2017’s House Music Scene Has a New Genre!

House, undoubtedly the backbone of dance music, has seen unlimited progress as genres have fluctuated through mainstream success.

With genres such as Electro-House and Progressive diverging into the laddish bigroom, characterised by Martin Garrix, and then more recently going back to dubstep and garage influences (Borgore, Jauz, Tchami) in the form of Bass-House, it’s time for a House music rebirth.

Because, ultimately, as soon as the pioneers of a subgenre hit mainstage festival success, you have to move on to the next trend. While the summer of ’16 is no doubt dominated by the Tropical/Bass era, we are going to notice a shift over the next year towards a new genre.

Power house.

For the past year, I was expecting the relatively underground G-house (Gangsta-House) to bring itself to the limelight. So I hoarded tracks to prepare myself for the expectant shift.

Power House then hit me. It’s not quite G-house but not far off. Stylised by a producer called Styline, Power House bumps up the tempo of G-house and combines it with basslines reminiscent of old Trance and Acid. A DJ’s delight!

While elements pay homage to genres of a previous generation, the feel is fresh and modern. You can even listen to the very development of the genre by looking up tracks from its 2015 ‘inception’, with attention rising in the genre over the past year.

Like with Bass-House, this won’t be the mainstream chart-hitting genre. Power House will most likely sit under the shadow of the successor to spring break-esque Tropical House. However for the avid ‘Househead’ it will surely be their bassline anthems for the next era of real club music.

There is no doubt that Tropical House is here to stay in the meantime and I hope with all my heart the same will be the case for bass house.

Remember, when you suddenly feel yourself grooving to a Power-House song that is making the club go insane, remember that The Edit called it in the summer of 2016!
