Vintage Shopping in Glasgow

One of my favourite things I used to do when I was younger was go vintage shopping with my Mum. We would pour over the beautiful classic 70’s dresses and the rich colours of jackets that I hoped I would own one day. The best purchase I ever found on the rails of a cute vintage shop in Edinburgh was a black flared skirt, complete with lace netting. As soon as I laid my eyes upon it, I knew I had to buy it, even if I had no idea what I would wear it with.

Vintage shopping in recent years has become a lot more popular again, with one of the best places to find vintage stores being Glasgow. Due to the variety of vintage shops across the city, Glaswegians steal the show when it comes to unique and original fashion. I decided to narrow it down to the five best places to go vintage shopping in the city.

Established in 1986, Starry Starry Night is a vintage emporium, overflowing with original treasures from over the decades. When you approach it, it almost looks like something from a film, with its ivy green walls and flashes of colourful window plants. Located on the cobblestones of Dowanside Lane in the West End of Glasgow, it is a boutique that should definitely be visited by any lover of vintage shopping.

  1. The Glasgow Vintage Co.

Possibly one of the biggest, if not the biggest, vintage shop in Glasgow, The Glasgow Vintage Co. caters for men, women and children of all ages. Located in Kelvinbridge, the shop has two floors bursting at the seams with vintage goodies dating from the 50s to the 80s. 1. City Retro 41

This little gem is located in the heart of the city in King Street, offering up finds from all decades. Everything within this shop has been expertly chosen, due to its history and originality. 1. Granny Would Be Proud

The most unique of this list, Granny Would Be Proud is located inside the infamous Hillhead Bookclub in the West End. Punters can go in and have a cocktail and some food then head upstairs and look through the rails of secondhand designer clothing and original pieces of vintage art and crafts and home goods as well as clothing. They also have vintage fairs at different times of the year, bringing in fashion lovers from all across the city.

  1. Glorious

Also located in Kelvinbrige, Glorious is a quirky tucked away store, selling the very best of vintage clothing and accessories. With plenty of space to browse the rails upon rails of beautiful vintage materials and goods, Glorious is definitely worth a look.
