The core four: What you need to know before watching ‘The Super Models’

British Vogue’s September 2023 issue saw the legendary quartet of Naomi Campbell, Cindy
Crawford, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington appear together on the cover, promoting
the hottest new Apple+ docuseries ‘The Super Models.’

In preparation for the upcoming show, let us reflect on the most iconic moments of the
legendary ladies whose legs paved the way for millions of aspiring models.

Linda Evangelista’s quote “We don’t wake up for less than $10,000 a day” is an iconic
statement from her October 1990 Vogue interview.

The quote, which has recently had a revival with Y2K obsessed Gen-Z fans, perfectly encapsulates the extravagant world of supermodels during the 90s. It reflects the incredible demand and high earnings for the core four and other top models at the time.

Evangelista, known for her striking looks and versatility, was among the elite few who set such high standards in the fashion industry – taking models from people in photographs to pop culture phenomenon’s.

Cindy Crawford’s iconic Pepsi commercial, which aired during Super Bowl XXVI in 1992,
remains one of the most memorable moments in advertising history.

In the ad, Crawford pulls up to a rundown gas station in a striking red sports car, captivating viewers with her effortless beauty and style. As she takes a refreshing sip of a Pepsi can, a group of star-
struck boys watch in amazement.

The commercial perfectly captures the spirit of the ‘90s and the allure of pop culture with super models in particular, making it an instant fashion classic. Her appearance in the advertisement not only solidified Cindy Crawford’s status as a global fashion icon, but also helped Pepsi redefine its brand image, creating a lasting impact on both the fashion and advertising industries.

In 1997, at the memorial show for legendary fashion designer Gianni Versace, Naomi
Campbell gracefully stepped down the iconic Italian steps embodying the essence of
Versace’s daring and innovative designs.

Wearing a pink dress and giant cross necklace, Campbell showed why she was one of Versace’s favourite models – honouring her friend and close collaborator with a look and walk that will always be remembered.

Gianni Versace was murdered in 1997 by spree killer Andrew Cunanan.

Christy Turlington is widely recognised for her timeless elegance and influential fashion
moments, including her iconic black Chanel dress.

During Fashion Week in 1992, Turlington made a striking statement in a sleek Chanel gown with golden jewellery that shimmered as she strutted, showcasing her natural beauty and sophistication.

Coupled with her signature pose, this is a fashion moment which has stood the test of time.

Actress Lily Rose Depp wore the look to the 2019 Met Gala after being announced as the face of Chanel watches.

The Super Models is available to stream on Apple TV+ now.
