Fashion Trends to get you Through This Winter

It’s getting to that time of year where you start to feel like you want to update your wardrobe, well here at the EDIT we have some of the trends of this season to help you do just that.

Red from Head to Toe

Monochromatic dressing has been making an appearance for the last few years but until now it had always been in muted shades of white, black, beige and the occasional khaki look. With the cold autumn season approaching it’s red that’s taken over and will be keeping us warm all season long. It may feel daunting at first but it’s not just fire engine red that’s being used head to toe – burgundy and cherry tones are just as common. And if you don’t want to go completely monochromatic then why not mix your reds together or break up all the red with touches of black or white.

Faux Fur

When you think of autumn and winter fashion fur comes to mind straight away. The quintessential cold weather fabric has been updated this season with the addition of feathers for a unique look. Fur hasn’t just been limited to jackets and has been appearing on jumpers, bags, accessories and even shoes which adds an unexpected and yet understandable pop of texture. Who doesn’t want their outfit to look even cosier thanks to an appearance of fluffy fabric? Just make sure its faux fur.

Slogan T-Shirts

Slogan t-shirts have been around for years but never before have they been so nice or uplifting, we are now in an age of wearing our hearts on our sleeves (or in this case on our clothes). Tops are now adorned with phrases promoting love, girl power, happiness and general positivity which are all ideas we could do with embracing more in our lives. Who wouldn’t want to look in the mirror and see a motivational message right in front of them?

Oversized Hats

Hats are a staple in the winter time and a common theme on runways for this season seemed to be hats calling back to Pharrell Williams iconic 2014 Grammys look. Luckily for us, it hasn’t taken over mainstream fashion yet, instead, oversized details on hats are being seen instead, think a big pompom on a beanie or large ring detailing on a beret. Oversized details on hats are far easier to wear than a hat designed to take over your entire head, they can also complete an outfit with little effort and cut down on the time you would need in the morning to fix your hair.

Embellished Tights

Yes, tights are useful for the changing of the seasons but do we really need to throw back to tights that we wore when we were kids? Many tights coming down the runway this season were pastel, lace and embellished and while it added to many of the looks it also calls back all our toddler years. While these tights can add to a plain outfit and even elevate a look they do take a lot of thought to stop yourself from looking mismatched. However, the key with these tights is to make them the focal point of the look and be careful it doesn’t overpower your entire outfit.
