‘Nonna Said…’ Review

Living in Glasgow, there is never a struggle to find somewhere to go for a bite to eat. But to find a place that offers not only an exclusive sides menu, but also any pizza you can think of, delicious cocktails, a photo booth and even an arcade; ticked every box of what it takes to be an amazing restaurant and more.

‘Nonna said…’ is a retro style pizza restaurant located in the heart of Glasgow, Merchant city. As we arrived, we were greeted by friendly staff immediately and taken to our seats where we were given the bright coloured menus providing a great range of food and cocktails. Throughout our experience, we were given top notch service from the friendly bar and floor staff who ensured we were comfortable and happy with our food.

What made this restaurant incredibly unique was the different activities that you could do while waiting for your food. We tried out the photobooth which was entertaining and had the option to get it sent to our phones. You could also play hockey or even win a stuffed teddy from their claw machine. And, if you are not up for moving around, The Simpsons is playing through a projector. Then you can relax and enjoy an episode. Where else could you do that?

Now, something I found insanely special was the retro-style toilets with their bold, bright and encapsulating graphic walls. I never would have thought that a bathroom could entice me, but it really showed me that every single part of this remarkable restaurant had its own individual personality.

If you are a student, there is a 30% discount from Sunday through Wednesday where you will get money off on their delectable food. As this pizza restaurant is in such a great location, you are not short of places to go afterwards.

After our time at ‘Nonna said…’ we spent the rest of our night at Blackfriars pub only up the road from the restaurant. Blackfriars is an iconic Glasgow pub located on Bells Street which shows incredible live music with an electric atmosphere making it simple to enjoy the night. From pub grub to comedy shows only down the stairs, this pubs atmosphere was enough to keep us here until it shut.

Blackfriars renowned Friday Night Comedy made it comeback return on Friday 24th February. This was when I had the pleasure to enjoy comedy sets by some of the most star-studded comedians. To kickstart this comeback, multi-award-winning TV and Radio host, Des Clarke headlined with a 20 minute set sharing hilarious moments with the audience and was engaging from start to finish. This act was followed by comedy legend Viv Gee and Bruce Morton.

The glue of the comedy show was host Graeme Mackie, he used his comedic attitude to keep the show going and made sure that it ran smoothly. As he has plenty experience touring and hosting many of Scotland’s finest comedy nights, he was the man for the job.

The downstairs area where the show was located had ambience lighting and just the right amount of space. Although it was underground, it felt as though we were in our own little venue, and it felt very comfortable. During the break people were able to buy themselves drinks from the bar just located right behind the seats, making it very accessible
