Enchanted Forests Aren’t Just For Fairytales

A land of mysterious beauty, colour and wonder. But only for a few weeks of the year.

Surrounded by rich green hills in the heart of Scotland near the Tay Forest Park lies Pitlochry; a wee town which holds the an annual enchanted Forest Show. The lights and music installed forest is the hot spot for outdoor events and is only open for three weeks in late autumn.

With only limited tickets available, it’s a special excursion for students, families and couples.

The journey starts in Pitlochry at The Fishers Hotel where a bus shuttle departs with the excited and curious crowd to the start of the show at Faskally Wood. Upon arrival the theme of this year’s show is revealed by letters projected onto a large tree bark spelling out Elemental. The path follows Loch Dunmore, and is divided by a bridge halfway through, with bright and flashy lights on the way. Elements such as water and fire are integrated in installations all over the lake.
Water thrusts out of a fountain creating spectacular water loops in the air until they dash and break down again into the loch. Strobe lights and dreamy hues of blue, orange, green, red and purple glimmer and flow through the forest, illuminating the green of nature and leaving guests with stunned and wonder filled faces. It’s almost like a dreamland playground, but for both adults and kids. Barks, branches and even the leaves are dipped into what seems a bath of color.

Hidden speakers play complementary music to the elements; mysterious but soothing calm melodies for water and upbeat, louder tunes for fire give an authentic touch to the atmosphere. Acrobats in fantasy-like-costumes perform in-between the colorful trees, balancing each other with their weight and mastering flips in the air.

The fresh and pure air runs through the trees, while we all walk through this forest, astonished by how beautiful nature can be.
